The Warriors have signed a potential replacement for Klay Thompson.
On Thursday, multiple media outlets reported that Golden State would acquire 31-year-old shooting guard Buddy Hield in a sign-and-trade deal with the 76ers.
Hield gets a guaranteed deal worth two years and $21 million, including a player option for the fourth year.
The Warriors are trading a 2031 second-round pick to Philadelphia to complete the trade.
Last year, while playing for the Indiana Pacers and 76ers, Hield averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while making 42 starts.
Notably, Hield played in 84 games, a total that is the highest among all NBA players in 2023-24 thanks to the midseason trade.
Besides his durability, the Oklahoma player is also known for his sharpshooting skills.
Hield’s 3-point percentage has been at least 36.6 percent in every season of his career.
Since entering the NBA in 2016, Hield’s 40.0 percent conversion rate from downtown ranks 17th among players with 1,000 or more 3-pointers.
In terms of pure volume, Hield’s 1,924 triples are the second-most in the league over the past eight seasons, surpassed only by new teammate Steph Curry.
Earlier this week, the Warriors closed a significant chapter in the franchise’s history with the departure of Thompson, who played a key role in building the team’s dynasty in the late 2010s.
With Thompson leaving for the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State has now acquired 30-year-old shooting guard Kyle Anderson on a three-year, $27 million contract from the Minnesota Timberwolves, plus 26-year-old guard De’Anthony Melton on a one-year, $12.8 million contract.
The Warriors appear to have completed much of their core for the 2024-25 season, particularly the players who complement Curry and Draymond Green. However, the team could still be in the running for a more significant move, such as trading Lauri Markkannen from the Jazz.
The new-look Golden State is hoping to bounce back after finishing 46-36 last season and missing the playoffs for the third time in five years.
