Florence Police officers responded to a home on Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Kentucky at approximately 2:51 a.m. Saturday morning after receiving multiple reports of an active shooter inside the residence. Upon arrival, officers found seven people suffering from gunshot wounds, four of whom died at the scene. The other three victims were taken to UC Hospital and are currently listed in critical but stable condition. Police said the suspect fled in a motor vehicle when officers arrived. Officers said they saw the suspect quickly fleeing near Farmview Drive and U.S. 42 and attempted to pull him over, leading to a chase. The chase ended on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike after the suspect vehicle left the road and went into a ditch. Officers say they found the suspect had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified by police. The Florence Police Department’s Crime Scene and Investigation Unit responded to the scene to investigate. Police said there is currently no ongoing threat to the public and said the suspect acted alone.
